HACCP Food Safety Audit

Auditing services for Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point (HACCP) compliance

Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point (HACCP) is a standardized and systematized approach to assessing food safety. HACCP analyzes each step in the food-handling process, from the point at which it is grown on the farm to processing, packing and shipping, to preparing, serving and consumption. This science-based approach helps prevent food contamination, and thus helps prevent the chances of people getting sick, hurt or dying as a result of food contamination.

HACCP is recommended by the United Nations international standards organization for food safety, the Codex Alimentarius Commission, and is used by most countries around the world to help increase food safety throughout the production process.

Receiving Your HACCP Compliance Certificate

In 2005, HACCP became mandatory in Canada for federally registered meat and poultry establishments. The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) strongly recommends all other businesses in the food supply chain to adopt HACCP processing standards.

If you are a food processor, manufacturer, packaging plant or offer a food catering service, getting a HACCP compliance certificate is considered a good business practice. Other businesses in your supply or client chain may require you have been officially audited for HACCP as part of your supplier arrangement. If your business is not HACCP compliant, establishing an officially recognized food safety protocol isn’t just good common sense, it makes good business sense too.

The Orion HACCP Compliance Program

The Orion process includes an assessment with the HACCP pre-requisite programs, plus the 7 fundamental food safety principles:

  • Hazard Analysis Process

  • Critical Control Points

  • Critical Limits

  • Monitoring Plan Process

  • Corrective Actions

  • Verifications

  • Documentation

Established prerequisites need to meet specified requirements for the production or manufacturing premises and the equipment used therein, the storage and transportation of products, the personnel involved in handling products, and the process for handling recalls. Management systems must include procedures for monitoring these elements of the production process, as well as procedures for managing deviations, verifications, and record keeping.

Our audit service includes:

  • Providing an initial Audit Plan for review by the facility’s management team.

  • Opening meeting with facility management to provide an overview of the audit process.

  • Conducting the on-site audit.

  • Closing meeting with facility management to provide an overview of the audit results.

  • Conducting annual reviews required to maintain your compliance status.
